Internalized forms of violence have been attributed by the Greek media to the economic crisis that began in 2010. We examine how internalized violence is represented in the press in 2013 and 2017. In 2013 the number of articles related to suicide was much higher than in 2017. The presence of the word “suicide” in the title, the number of informational/historical as opposed to news articles, articles attributing suicide to financial cause as opposed to psychological, and mentions of the impact of the economic crisis were higher in 2013 than in 2017. Conversely, the odds that the article refers to the suicide of a famous person were higher in 2017 than in 2013. The suicides attributed to financial problems were less than 5%.
